Horace Mann Announces Community Spirit Award Recipient

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (March 4, 2019) – Horace Mann named Traci Moore of Springfield its 2018 Community Spirit Award recipient at its Employee Meeting Thursday. Moore, who is a Quality Assurance Analyst, was recognized for her dedication serving youth in our community, especially those involved in Girl Scouts of Central Illinois and Lincoln Magnet School (LMS) Beta Club. Each year, Horace Mann celebrates employees whose volunteer work is making a difference in their communities.

Moore started volunteering with the Girl Scouts 10 years ago, and enjoys encouraging the girls’ leadership and service. “Working with the Girl Scouts motivates me, knowing that I am making a difference in the lives of young girls,” said Moore. “I am helping them with goal setting, decision- making, money management, people skills and business ethics, and I am hopeful I’m helping them build confidence that will last a lifetime.”

Brittany Carver, Director of Member Support, Girl Scouts of Central Illinois, says Moore is always working hard to help girls, not only in her troop, but throughout Central Illinois. “She makes sure that the girls stay active and has them engaged in lots of adventures and educational, fun programs. Anytime we need a troop to be out in the community at parades or events, she is the first to volunteer her troop,” said Carver. “She’s an extremely valuable asset to Girl Scouts of Central Illinois, dedicating a lot of time and effort.”

Moore assists with recruitment and program activities, sorting and distributing Girl Scout cookies and making phone calls to donors. She also helps with the Girl Scouts Cookie program where Girl Scouts learn life lessons and earn ‘dough’ for selling cookies and can then spend it on camp, programs or various items in the Girl Scout Boutiques. In addition, she assists seventh and eighth graders at LMS find volunteer opportunities in the community so they can earn service hours, and assists with the LMS Beta Club’s preparations for state and national conventions.

Horace Mann awarded Moore with $1,500 to donate to charities, and she has chosen to donate $1,000 to the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois and $500 to the Lincoln Magnet School Beta Club. Moore also received a commemorative plaque and a corporate gift. Three other employees were honored for their community service, receiving a commemorative plaque and $250 to donate to charity: Leaan Allison chose Mt. Auburn Fire Protection District; Rita Schultz chose Mini O’Beirne Crisis Nursery; and Gay Sybert selected Compass for Kids.
